“ Angeline's is an awesome spot for southern Louisiana food. I enjoyed all the dishes we ordered to the fullest. I've never been to Louisiana, but from what the menu offers and what the waitress told us, this place seems 100% authentic. They even import beers from Louisiana to here, so you won't be able to get their signature strawberry beer anywhere else. For the food, my fsforite was the fried catfish. It was more filling than I expected. The catfish was thicc and it came with a lot of hush puppies. I'm not much of a sweets person, but the beignets were incredible. It comes out piping hot fresh. Would recommend getting this to cap off your meal. When you walk around the restaurant, you will see a lot of art from Louisiana and articles about how great this restaurant is. They stay true to their southern cuisine and theme. ”
“ I have been wanting to try this place for forever. We called on a Saturday night and were able to get a last minute reservation. When we arrived it was pretty busy but we were seated right away. I started out trying the hurricane cocktail it was pretty good although I would have liked it to be stronger. We ordered the hush puppies with the honey butter as an appetizer. They were so delicious. I could have eaten two plates of them. I had the shrimp creole for dinner it was very good. It came with white rice and green beans. My husband ordered the jambalaya he was very happy with it I tried it also and it was very good. We also had the macaroni and cheese with bacon which was good also. I wanted to try dessert but I was too full so I will definitely be back to try more items. ”
“ Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen, located in Downtown Berkeley just a few blocks from the Cal campus, offers a flavorful taste of the South with a welcoming ambiance. The restaurant has a brunch menu, but I opted to order from the regular menu instead. I tried the Jambalaya ($18.99), which was highly recommended over the gumbo. It had a generous portion size, plenty of spice, and well-cooked rice, making it a standout dish. The Fried Catfish ($21.99) was another highlight, served with hush puppies, tartar sauce, and sweet butter--a satisfying and hearty meal. Everything was super filling, and for the quality and portion sizes, the prices felt relatively affordable. The restaurant has plenty of tables, and during my visit over UC Berkeley's winter break, there was a relaxed atmosphere. The service was excellent--the staff was kind, accommodating, and checked in often to ensure a great experience. The decor transports you straight to New Orleans, with elements reminiscent of Mardi Gras, adding to the authenticity of the dining experience. For those looking to try something a little different, they offer unique dishes like alligator hash. Overall, Angeline's Louisiana Kitchen is a great spot for delicious Southern comfort food with attentive service and a charming atmosphere. ”
“ We were quickly seated on a Friday night and there were still a lot of seats open. I've been here once before and opted for the gumbo which was so delicious!! This time around we ordered jambalaya, catfish, and beignets. The jambalaya was so flavorful and memorable. The catfish was also breaded perfectly and didn't taste overcooked. I enjoyed the beignets but I wish they were sold in smaller quantities because I was so stuffed after dinner! Overall a lovely experience and would recommend to anyone who loves comfort food. ”
“ Decided to take wifey out for an impromptu date night and gave them a call to see if they had seats and was in luck. Got there and was seated really quickly at a table next to the wall. Wifey ordered the Hurricane and I took a soda. We also ordered an appetizer of Hush Puppies. They were hot and fresh the butter melted into them right away. For the main dishes we ordered the Shrimp Creole and the Jambalaya. We also ordered the Mac and Cheese with bacon added to share. The food arrived very hot and was fantastic. The Jambalaya was excellent. The sauce piquant is what really made the dish for me. The Shrimp Creole was also excellent and the shrimp were big and were also in the sauce piquant. Win! The Mac and cheese was good especially with the bacon but after killing the jambalaya was not able to finish! The service was great and and they were prompt and checking on us to make sure we had everything we needed. Didn't have room for dessert but will definitely got back to have some beignets next time! ”
“ Went out to have a nice lunch with a friend and while driving through Berkeley, we decided to stop at Angeline's. Usually, I don't expect much as far as service for lunch, but it was excellent. The food was fresh and delicious, and we left satisfied. Angeline's doesn't fail. ”
“ L O V E D ! ! I dropped in on a random Thursday to have dinner with a friend. I had heard about this place, but never been. The hostess was so nice and sat us immediately. I server was very knowledgeable about the menu and I truly appreciated that. I ordered red beans and rice and I was not disappointed. I also ordered the catfish. It came with potato salad and hush puppies. Some of the best potato salad I've ever tasted from a restaurant. It was so good. I also had something called a swamp drink, which is actually the Louisiana version of an Arnold Palmer. This place wasn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be and I loved that. The ambience definitely has that Louisiana charm and I can't wait to go back. ”
“ Angeline's is one of my first forays into Southern comfort food that doesn't revolve around seafood boil. We came around 8 on a Wednesday evening and were seated immediately in their spacious and tastefully rustic dining area. Service was pleasant and attentive, and our food came out in 15 minutes. For the area and what we got, I'd say the price point was very reasonable. Baked Mac and Cheese: Classic starter executed deliciously. Solid crust, seasoned well, and very creamy. Baby Back Ribs: 9 gorgeously glazed, fragrant ribs that just peeled away from the bone like nothing else. These were noticeably sweeter than the barbecue ribs I've had but super succulent nonetheless. Potato salad was chunkier and palatable, but not quite my taste. Fried Catfish with Hush Puppies: Light and crunchy and fried in what might've been breadcrumb. Hush puppies were quite dense but so satisfying with the honey butter. Tartar sauce was on the thinner side and more ranch-like than anything. See you next paycheck! ”
“ I had bookmarked this restaurant for years as we love New Orleans cuisine and have been to NOLA many times. We finally went for an early dinner after a Cal football game this weekend, making a 4:30 OpenTable resie. They have outdoor seating but it's not a parklet and not covered, so we choose to eat indoors. The restaurant was not too crowded and had nice decour with a brick wall, not gaudy like Nola. We both had a spiked lemonade, which used a sake as they only have a wine and beer license. It didn't taste boozy at all and was nearly $13, so I'd stick to wine or beer. My husband had the fried catfish and gumbo (added shrimp), while I had the shrimp creole for our mains. He enjoyed the catfish but it was served in strips, not whole, with chunky potato salad and 6 honey cornbread fritters (hush puppies), which were delish. The shrimp creole was served over rice with blue lake green beans. Shrimp was juicy with big portions, sauce was a little tomatoey. Beans needed to be cooked a tad bit more but had a nice seasoning. It was a lot of food and we took half home. Our server was friendly and the food came out fairly quickly. Total for two was $118 so not inexpensive. I had thought it was a family run joint but turns out it's owned by a businessman and the chef is from Louisiana. Overall, we enjoyed our meals. We would go back and try brunch next time. ”
“ Angeline's is really all that and a bag of chips. A quaint Cajun restaurant in the heart of Downtown Berkeley. There was a bit of a wait for brunch on a Saturday. Service was kind and quick. I ordered the fried cheese grits w/ crawfish etouffee, and all I can say is wow. This dish was so tasty and is the epitome of what I expect Cajun food to taste like in NOLA. The grits weren't bland at all, and were probably one of the best tasting grits I've had. The crawfish etouffee was a perfect accompaniment to the crispy grits. I licked the plate clean! This is technically only a starter but was my meal, which I think was enough for a brunch. My friends ordered the breakfast jambalaya and fried chicken & beignets. Breakfast Jambalaya: I only tried a bit of hers, but it was really yummy. Tomato-y based sauce with rice and poached eggs. There were some bits of toasty, crispy rice that I appreciated. Chicken & Beignets: How do they make the chicken so light?! The gravy was also incredibly flavorful and didn't feel too heavy. The beignets were also so fluffy. What a great dish! Overall, I leave Berkeley thinking about this place. I will definitely be back and will be ordering the Fried Cheese Grits w/ Crawish Etouffee. ”
